Luke 24:47-49

SERMON PASSAGE

Luke 24:47-49

47) and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48) You are witnesses of these things. 49) And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.

clothed: to enter into, get into, as into clothes, to put on.

Romans 8:8 (ESV) Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Acts 1:4-5 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5) for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Wait

Waiting says expectation. God is going to do this.

Waiting says I am tired, but I am not going to give up.

Waiting says I'm determined and I shall not be moved, I am believing Gods promise.

Psalm 62:1-2 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. 2) He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

Isiah 40:28-31 (NKJV) Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29) He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30) Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31) But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

The Promise of My Father

John 14:15 (ESV) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

John 15:26 But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about me.

John 16:7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

Evidences of the Spirit Filled Life

1 John 3:24 Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

1 John 4:13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
